“Joey has the eye of a designer and made very helpful suggestions as we moved through the project phases. The quality of his work and the experience level of his tradesmen are exceptional. I sell real estate and see a ton of sub-standard workmanship so I can recognize quality work fairly easily. His subs actually cleaned up at the end of each day so that the house was still presentable. He'll do my next project, for sure. Hat's off to Joey and his team.”

For You
Building a new home, planning a home reno, or just tackling some major repairs? Hiring the right contractor is HUGE. To avoid headaches and get the job done right, here are some key questions to ask before you sign on the dotted line.
Remember, the best contractors are open, honest, and want you to feel good about the project. Don't be shy – ask away! For more a more comprehensive look at these questions and why they are important, check out our blog post!
-
Any contractor working on your home should carry both a valid license and general liability insurance. Ask to see the actual documents, not just a yes. If something goes wrong on an uninsured job site, you could be held responsible.
-
A confident contractor will hand you references without hesitation and show you a portfolio of completed projects. Follow through and actually call those references. Ask specifically whether the project came in on time and on budget.
-
Surprises happen on every job, especially in remodels. What separates good contractors from bad ones is how they communicate when something comes up. Ask for a specific example of a problem they encountered and how they resolved it.
-
Some contractors sell the job and then hand it off to subcontractors you have never met. Know upfront who is showing up to your home every day, and whether those people are employees or subs, and what oversight looks like either way.
-
You should never have to chase your contractor for information. Ask how often you will receive updates, through what channel, and who your single point of contact is when questions come up.
-
A low estimate is only good if it covers everything. Ask for a line-by-line breakdown and confirm whether materials, labor, permits, and cleanup are all included. That is where the real comparison between bids happens.
-
Pulling the right permits is not optional, it is what protects your investment and keeps your home insurable. A contractor who suggests skipping permits to save time or money is a contractor worth walking away from.
